Spectacular New Tourism Infrastructure Project Planned for Tahiti

Spectacular New Tourism Infrastructure Project Planned for Tahiti

With authorities recognising the vital contribution of tourism to French Polynesia’s economy, the project by the region’s economic forces aims to improve the attractiveness of the island through coastal planning comparable to the most sophisticated seaside travel destinations.

The project comprises restaurants, leisure facilities as well as hotels and a conference centre; all of them facing the island of Moorea. It will give a major boost to the appeal of the destination – not only for leisure, but also for business travellers.

Gateway to Tahiti’s tourism and culture

The Tahitian Village will be an inclusive project taking into consideration not only strict environmental criteria but also cultural traditions. Polynesian culture will be an essential part of the infrastructure, in particular due to the proximity of Point Tata’a, which was one of the most sacred sites of Tahiti in ancient times. Polynesian culture will be reflected in the architectural shapes and material used for the construction. A cultural centre will serve as a stage for local crafts and artists’ performances.

The number of leisure activities will turn the Tahitian Village into a place where visitors will be able to mingle with locals. The Village will integrate several hotels and hotel apartments (1 five-star, 2 four-star, 1 three-star and two condominiums), a convention centre with an auditorium for up to 3,000 delegates as well as several meeting rooms and an exhibition hall; a beach, marinas, a public park and a promenade along the waterfront with restaurants, cafes and shops. In total, the project is due to represent an investment of €1.5 billion, with a possible opening around 2025/2026.
