“Lord Practices What it Preaches” by Implementing Sustainable & Eco-friendly Hospitality Standards

Lords Hotels and Resorts is protective of Mother Earth and its environment and has extensively charted out its Environment Chapter; and aggressively follows the philosophy of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle to the tee at all its units.

Lord’s endeavour has always been to make all its properties as environmentally friendly as possible and some of the methods that have been undertaken are – convert wet garbage into fertilizers, ensuring proper disposal of plastics apart from ensuring its minimal use. The housekeeping department has been instructed to ensure garbage segregation at source and to separate disposal of plastics, dry and wet garbage. In fact, the laundry bags kept inside the rooms are made of recycled newspapers.

The well-designed rooms of the hotel and resorts feature contemporary facilities including master switches or central energy control cards, and sensory lights in toilets to conserve energy. The bathrooms also feature water conservation stickers. Guests have been introduced to towel reuse practise and bucket bath. Shiladitya Mukherjee, Sr. Area General Manager of Lords Hotels and Resorts stated that “Lords Plaza Surat is one of the best hotels in Gujarat that is sensitive to the environment and has adopted extensive measures to ensure a good environment with the use of composed machine, Solar panels for water heating, Energy Saving Key tags in rooms, LED energy saving bulbs, and motion sensors in public areas, which saves overall consumption of energy.”

Lords Hotels and Resorts have installed water harvesting facilities and grease traps and STP plants (Sewage Treatment Plants) to combat the water shortage problem and to recycle the water for the upkeep of its gardens. Lords restaurants – the Blue Coriander and the Lime Tree also adhere to the conservation norms and uses glass jugs/ bottles with RO water. The well-equipped conference and banquets are also ensured with eco-friendly conference materials – be it the form of Name Tags, Carry Bags, Gifts and Give-Aways.

Other conservative measures taken by both the properties include use of compost machine for waste food processing to convert into manures, recycling of water in STP and later used for garden and lawn, sensor taps used in public washrooms, and garbage segregation. For official purpose, both the hotels re-Use A4 size paper and avoid usage of plastic bags.

The Lords Management conducts at least two “Tourism Area Cleaning Camps” involving staff, every year. The staff are also educated on fire, garbage and environment management.
