Transavia Adds New Destinations in a Bid for Strong Summer Season

TRANSAVIA ADDS NEW DESTINATIONS

Transavia, the low-cost leisure subsidiary of Air France-KLM, is looking at a bright summer with many new destinations introduced for this year. In an exclusive interview, we talk to the company’s COO, Nicolas Henin

Established 15 years ago, Transaviais the largest low-cost carrier operating out of Paris Orly airport. It has carried over 51 million passengers since its inception in 2007 and, by this summer, will boast a network of 100 destinations. Among the latest destinations added to its schedule from Orly airport are flights to Bilbao, Spain, Ljubljana, Slovenia as well as many new destinations in North Africa.

Nicolas Henin, COO, Transavia France

In an exclusive interview with ITB Newsroom, Nicolas Henin, Transavia France CCO, shares his optimism for 2022.

How is the traffic recovery going this summer for Transavia France?

We have seen strong sales momentum with a great desire to travel to see loved ones or to get away from it all. We will be close to the pre-crisis load factors. This upturn in traffic is part of a growth and development strategy for Transavia France. In 2021, our fleet was 48 aircraft. This summer, we have 61 aircraft.

Which are the most dynamic outbound markets from France?

All markets are performing well, in particular Morocco, Greece, Spain and Portugal. However, we currently pay attention to the consequences of this strong recovery, which affects the whole sector. This is in fact creating significant tensions in the airports, which we have anticipated in our programme.

Which destinations are experiencing the strongest growth?

Similarly to summer 2021, we’re experiencing a strong interest for sun destinations and the Mediterranean basin. Our key destination markets remain Spain, Greece, Portugal and France. The Maghreb countries, following the lifting of restrictions, are also very popular with our customers. I am also pleased to see that our new destinations are finding their audience, such as Egypt, where tourism is developing again. As a proof, Transavia will offer flights to four Egyptian destinations – Cairo, Hurghada, Luxor, Sharm el-Sheikh – for the first time this winter.

What is the state of the current fleet and what are the prospects for deliveries in the coming years?

We will progressively renew our fleet, which will integrate Airbus A320neos in replacement of our Boeing 737-800. These investments will enable us to reduce our CO2 emissions, as a new generation aircraft emits around 15% less CO2. We will welcome our first Airbus of the A320 neo family by the end of 2023.

Are you thinking of opening new bases in France and Europe?

Today, we are focusing on developing and strengthening our four bases in France: Paris-Orly, Nantes, Lyon and Montpellier, which offer significant potential. As the company continues to grow, we are able to offer our customers more and more travel possibilities from these four airports. In addition, we also operate from other cities in France such as Nice, Marseille, Toulon and Perpignan.

How do you work with tourism professionals? Do you have dedicated commercial services for the trade?

We work in close collaboration with all tourism professionals. Tour operators, travel agencies, but also tourist offices and airports are essential partners for the development of the company and our network. Our sales team based in Orly is present alongside the distribution and tour operators to ensure the best service to our common customers. Our dedicated B2B service centre has the same objective: it can be reached every day- from Monday to Sunday, between 7am and 11pm.
