Riga Airport Takes Centre Stage for Baltic Region

RIGA AIRPORT TAKES CENTRE STAGE

RIX – the Riga Airport, located just 15 minutes from downtown Riga, has positioned itself as an important growth engine for one of Europe’s most dynamic regions, providing quick connections by air, road, and high-speed rail to all three Baltic capitals

The aviation hub offers more than 100 direct destinations from Latvia’s capital during the Summer season, and is planning on growing connectivity even further, with many new destinations being announced in 2023.

It is currently being transformed into a next generation air-rail hub thanks to its strategic location along Rail Baltica, a high-speed link connecting all three Baltic capitals to high-speed rail networks in Europe.

RIX Overview

RIX to expand connectivity in 2023

Riga Airport, which already offers regular year-round direct flights to most major hubs in Europe and the middle east, is looking to grow its list of destinations. National carrier airBaltic plans to launch new routes from Riga to Hannover, Porto, Bucharest, Belgrade, Tivat, Yerevan, Baku, Burgas, Bilbao, Istanbul, and year round flights to Dubai. Norwegian is also set to significantly increase its presence by basing two aircraft and launching several new destinations from Riga.

When finished in 2026, Rail Baltica will offer comfortable connections from Riga Airport to Tallinn and Vilnius in less than two hours. The Rail Baltica station will be fully integrated into a new state-of-the-art passenger terminal, which will also be completed in 2027 and will serve up to 12 million passengers annually.RIX Airport City (Credit: Riga Airport)
