Riggs Washington D.C. is thrilled to announce its 2023 holiday tree in collaboration with the luxury brand Lingua Franca. From the compelling and culturally resonant label comes a holiday tree decked out with elements of embroidery and crocheted luxe garlands, all sustainably sourced and hand stitched. The tree is trimmed further with custom hoop ornaments carrying embroidered salient messages. Founded by Rachelle Hruska MacPherson, Lingua Franca encourages slow fashion and shopping handmade, ethical products – they are best known for their hand-stitched cashmere sweaters, stitched in
New York City. Cultivating a strong following, Lingua Franca has amassed A-list fans and supporters including actress and activist Jane Fonda, writer Joan Didion, screenwriter Mindy Kaling, media star Martha Stewart, and actresses Jennifer Lopez and Reese Witherspoon, to name a few. Accompanying the tree, a Lingua Franca Cashmere Pop-Up Shop will be featured in the lobby of Riggs Washington D.C. this season allowing shoppers to create their own custom cashmere sweaters and to shop giftables for everyone on their list.
Soaring 18 feet tall in the lobby of Riggs Washington D.C., the Lingua Franca designer tree is a celebration of hand-stitching and craftsmanship. The design incorporates crocheted creations, garlands in playful colors and a sprinkling of embroidery hoops featuring socially relevant statements from leading female figures throughout history. Guests who look closely will also spot Juno Moneta, the Roman goddess and protectress of funds – a nod to Riggs Washington D.C.’s building as the former Riggs National Bank. Topped with a perfectly tied velvet bow, the tree design is highly textured with iridescent crystal balls and glistening lights strung up the tree complemented by a cascading crocheted yarn garland.
“Lingua Franca is all about spreading messages of both goodwill and cheer, as well as commenting on the zeitgeist of the times,” commented Lingua Franca’s founder, Rachelle Hruska MacPherson. It makes perfect sense for us to bring the brand to D.C., not only our nation’s capital, but home to many of the origins for phrases we draw inspiration from. We are
excited to be hosted by Riggs, a team who really gets our humor and good spirited fun around luxury customization.”
“Every stitch of Lingua Franca’s warm design embodies the holiday season at Riggs, radiating a vibrant togetherness and the spirit of goodwill,” said Jacu Strauss, Creative Director of Lore Group. “Lingua Franca wonderfully captures the essence of Riggs Washington D.C., blending the property’s history and continuing our tradition of having one of the most exciting holiday trees in the capital. We are thrilled to welcome guests to spend their holiday season with us at Riggs.”
Continuing their partnership, Riggs Washington D.C. and Lingua Franca invite shoppers to a Lingua Franca Cashmere Pop-Up Shop hosted in the hotel lobby. From November 28 to November 30, visitors are invited to a one-stop-shop for holiday gifting, with the option of customizing their own cashmere sweater or accessory to be delivered in time for the holiday season. The shop will feature some of Lingua Franca’s best-selling signature embroidered cashmere sweaters, hand-stitched with thought-provoking phrases which have quickly cultivated a cult following, as well as favorite giftable items including t-shirts, winter accessories and more, featuring a line of nods to D.C.
