Bali’s Wellness Tourism Boosted by new Banyan Tree Escape

Bali’s wellness tourism sector

Rooted in decades of experience, the opening of the Banyan Tree Escape has enhanced Bali’s wellness tourism sector

The property, located in northern Ubud, pioneers a ‘no walls, no doors’ concept, married with a sustainable design and build. It’s wellbeing menu offers pure spa interpretation inspired by local healing techniques in Bali. Treatments are based on collaborations with local healers and experts, harnessing the island’s riches and wisdom.

Bali is a popular choice among wellness tourists where the Banyan Tree Escape is already ahead of the game, serving perfect treatments through years of practice. Handmade spa products are crafted from pure, natural ingredients which are either sourced locally or grown from the farm onsite. Located nearby the small Buahan village in Payangan, Bali, the adults only resort honours the local culture and wellbeing techniques.

The resort’s open air spa is named Toja Spa after the word “water” in Indonesian. The concept is designed to nourish guests’ connection with nature, taking full advantage of its natural setting among the tree tops. The spa leverages the sensory perception of the surrounding environment with homemade scrub and bath experiences that guests can personalise.

Experiences include the Buahan Bliss signature treatment which uses a natural, earthy brush to gently exfoliate the skin. Next, a stimulating massage improves guests’ circulatory channels and is inspired by the streams of sacred rivers. To complete the restorative experience, a warming wrap is offered using local herbs and spices.

The global wellness tourism market size is expected to reach USD 1.02 trillion by 2030, according to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc. The market is expected to expand at a CAGR of 9.93% from 2022 to 2030. Increasing patient awareness regarding health and wellbeing and personal care will be one of the major drivers for the market.
